The only thing I know about California style is what Katie Perry tells me via song.
I got a lot of great feedback on Twitter when I put together an outfit inspired by Penny's beachy, fun, California girl style. Penny, for those of you who aren't familiar, is the female lead on the CBS sitcom, The Big Bang Theory. She's a normal girl who lives across the hall from a bunch of nerds, and the results are comical...

Let's reminisce about the weekend, shall we?
How terrible is this? There have been so many Michael Jackson specials, concerts, exclusive interviews, and general sound bytes for the past week that I had to go to his Wikipedia page just so I could figure out when he actually died. It turns out that he passed on June 25, last Friday. I hope you all raised a sequined hand at some point during that day.
Though nothing you do to honor MJ could ever measure up to the tribute he got at the BET Awards on Sunday. Chris Brown cried while singing “Man in the Mirror”! And danced to “Billie Jean”! And promised to not let fans down (again) while accepting the AOL Fan-Demonium Trophy! So now, America has totally forgiven him for that…violent thing he did awhile back. But can we talk for a second about that award? That’s the worst fake award name EVER. Why not just call it the AOL Time-Filler Trophy for Troubled Stars Seeking Redemption? Way catchier.
And while we’re on the subject of Michael, let’s turn out attention to toys and movies about them. Toy Story 3, which in my mind is Pixar’s greatest achievement yet, grossed $59 million this weekend, triumphing over Grown-Ups ($41 million) and Knight and Day ($20.5 million). Can I start the countdown to Inception yet? I can’t wait to watch Joseph Gordon-Levitt rehash the Matrix fight scene in what looks like a hotel lobby. I’m serious. 18 days

Head to Head:
Which would win in a fight, a great white shark or a killer whale?
Dominick Mayer:
My mom used to ruin a lot of things for me when I was a child. The two movies we'd watch together the most were Twister and Jaws. Because of this, when the tornado sirens sound I run outside to try and find Cary Elwes in his black caravan (he never shows) and when I go swimming I always look for Richard Dreyfuss making the quickest of quips (happened once, but I don't wish to talk about it)...

The thing I like most about Annie Hall is that it reminds me of a time in which Diane Keaton didn't annoy the shit out of me.
Yay! I love putting together Annie Hall outfits! The first ensemble was put together as a response to a request from a young associate wondering what to wear to her firm's Halloween party. It was a lot of fun, and since none of you nerds ever email me with character suggestions (I don't have this problem at the other blogs I contribute to! Shame, shame!), I figured I'd revisit this great Woody Allen character, played by Diane Keaton.
You guys remember Annie Hall...

Alliteration and cultural news mini-round-ups: two things that never go out of style.
First and foremost, feel free to offer up suggestions for this article title, HEAVE readers. The only other one I had been mulling over was "Newsies." Given my intense fear of copyright lawyers though, I decided to steer clear of that. For now. So, why am I rambling? Right. Since the cultural world (and by that I mean Miley Cyrus' sexuality) blossoms at a rate faster than anyone can measure, posting one big news round-up per week didn't make too much sense. It's downright disorienting to read something about, say, Lil' Wayne dropping a new single on Friday and then find out seconds later that he's in jail on Wednesday. So, we're gonna try to keep your head on straight by posting some mini-round-ups a few times per week. Mmmk? Mmmk. 1) OK, I know that the last thing I should be posting about is "Twilight," but this is so ridiculous that it needs to be mentioned. The obvious upside to the recession is that since no one has a job, they (meaning people in California that are doing this) can afford to camp out for the "Eclipse" premiere A WHOLE DAMN WEEK ahead of time. Seriously? I could pardon you all if it was opening this weekend. But it doesn't open until Wednesday. Go volunteer somewhere. 2) Most collaborations make me grasp my face "Home Alone"-style while I try to comprehend how those musicians know each other. Not this one. I'm mainly just clutching my heart thinking about how great it is. Bjork and Dirty Projectors. Last May, those kids all put together a "suite" called "Mount Wittenberg Orca" to benefit a housing charity in Manhattan. And now, they've recorded an updated version for digital release on June 30. This time, the National Geographic Society will benefit from their creativity.Posted by Alyssa Vincent on Jun 23, 2010 @ 7:19 pm
