Holiday Helpings: Don't Stand So Close To The Christmas Tree

Work Cited deliver bountiful helpings of holiday cheer – and a grave warning.

Here at HEAVE we’re all about getting into the Christmas Spirit, and what better way to spread the Christmas cheer, than singing loud for all to hear (that’s fucking right, we consult Elf for our holiday spirit advice).  So from now until the Christmas our writers will be choosing some of their favorite holiday songs, one a day until Christmas...

We've Got You Covered: Peculiar Gentlemen and 'Single Ladies'

Peculiar Gentlemen take on Beyonce's 'Single Ladies.'

You are lying to me if you tell me you didn’t like “Single Ladies” by Beyonce. Seriously, it’s one of the most perfect songs ever created. I know many of Beyonce’s songs are about empowering females – but it really doesn’t get better than “Single Ladies.” It sort of makes me feel like a shitty male.

Speaking of males, the Peculiar Gentlemen have covered “Single Ladies.” The Peculiar Gentlemen are just what their name implies – as they are a pretty peculiar pair. The group is the duo of folk/rock guitarist “Sweet” Willy Jive and hip-hop keyboardist E-Beats. Recently the band had added a cavalcade of back-up singers. The Peculiar Gentlemen’s sound is also well, pretty odd – combining 1960’s soul with a lighthearted sense of humor. Take a listen to “Single Ladies” below.

In Remembrance: Pedro The Lion

Not the loudest roar in the jungle, but a memorable one.

I don’t plan this – honest to god, I’m actually running out of ideas, but this week we have yet another one man band – Pedro The Lion.  After 10 years and four albums, David Bazen, the visionary behind the project decided to call it quits.  But not before solidifying himself a position in the indie hall of fame and performing with countless amazing musicians...
