New Mixtape from Lupe Fiasco
Lupe declares Enemy of the State mixtape more of a cassette. What’s that?
For a little treat Wasalu Muhammad (Lupe Fiasco) has provided a sample of what he’s been working on post The Cool. The Enemy of the State mixtape hit up the web for Thanksgiving and provides a 22-minute, seamless trip to the stream-of-consciousness lyrics of Lupe provides for Enemy of the State. The tape starts with Lupe declaring the album a love story and breaking into a Radiohead sampling. Other sampling on the album includes Lil’ Wayne, Jay-Z, Timbaland, Clipse, and some work from Lasers.
The tape can be downloaded here, and you are encouraged to do so. The tape was originally released as such, a tape. Lupe intended Enemy of the State to be ‘cassette style’ so original that was the only version that could be downloaded. Since Thanksgiving and complaints on the net, Lupe’s crew has released a split version of the twelve-track tape. Personally, I recommend the cassette-style version; this is 22-minutes of premium content that ends too soon after pressing play.
Lupe plans to launch another mixtape for Christmas entitled Friend of the People. I would expect it to be another short but quality tape from Mr. Fiasco. These tapes are all in promotion of a hopeful, early 2010 release of Lupe’s next LP Lasers. If you haven’t checked it out, here is a splash page for the album that likely includes many of Lasers themes. Assuming that you’ll download the mixtape, Have a listen to a B-sides track that leaked from Lupe in October, with a little Jimmy Hendrix sampling.
