Lupe fights Atlantic and G.O.O.D. Music pushes Cudi back
Fans demand the release of Lasers while Man on the Moon II moves two weeks
A major hip-hop release without a pushback? Unheard of. Who’s to blame? Almost always the record labels. Lupe Fiasco has been shoved to and fro on more than one occasion. Now, same goes for the kid called Cudi. The two artists now share record delays for Lupe’s Lasers and for Kid Cudi’s Man on the Moon 2: the Legend of Mr. Rager. For Lupe, it’s more like an ongoing hold.
We’ve already informed you last winter that Lupe announced to the public that Lasers, the artist’s junior album, was turned in and ready for some spins. Well, let us inform you that matters have well…escalated a bit. Fans have started an online petition addressed that demands that Lasers be released. Here’s the full wording:
To: Atlantic Records
Dear Atlantic Records,
The fans have been below have been waiting for the release for Lupe Fiasco's album "Lasers" for over a good year now. Since when it was originally announced finished last summer, there has still yet to be a release date announced. It has even been stated by Lupe Fiasco the artist himself, that the album [is] in fact completed. Enough is enough, we demand that you stop playing around and give us the album that we have been highly anticipating since the release of The Cool.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
So far over 9,000 strong have made a showing demanding Lupe’s latest be released on the double. Rumor has it Atlantic wants a “poppy” single from the album, but we think it may be Lupe’s source material.
To go along with Lupe’s ongoing withdrawal, Cudi’s Kanye-founded label G.O.O.D. Music has chosen to push Cudi’s album back two weeks, placing the release to September 28. This, after G.O.O.D was set to launch a full-scale musical attack with three artists (Kanye, Consequence, and Cudi) all releasing their albums September 14. Now that trifecta will never be, bummer.
We urge you to sign the Lasers petition here and at the very least, listen to the latest from Kid Cudi and Kanye West “Erase Me” from Man on the Moon 2: the Legend of Mr. Rager below.
