Initially I was very excited about the proposition of writing about this year's top albums, but once the actual project dawned on me, I felt completely unprepared. Perhaps it was because with such egocentric fervor I had been chasing my own dreams of finishing up a new album within the year, and making a musician's life work for me that I found myself completely unaware to the year's released albums...

The Teenagers - Starlett Johansson - Featuring what has to be the sleaziest vocalist in a pop group ever, the Parisian trio (not be confused with chart-topping, doo-wop sensations, Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers) combines a modern take on synth-pop with hipster snark and thick French accents in their loving (and lusting) tribute to Scarlett Johansson. Thankfully, the ultimate result is more silly then creepy, and actually makes for a damn good song...

Radiohead hits the top of the charts.
Write this down: 2008 will be the greatest single year in human history. The proof? For the first two weeks of the year, Josh Groban's Noel was not the highest-selling album in the country. It seems like weeks since I've been able to say that. Merciful God in heaven above, what have we done to deserve this bounty?
In fact, in a complete reversal of quality and integrity, Radiohead stormed to the top of the charts, moving 122,000 copies of In Rainbows...

It's a new year, a new start and a new opportunity to launch some charity work. Is there any more probable way to begin than by mentioning Bono? Most likely not.
The cause-conscious rocker has put his signature and design on a t-shirt to benefit the Conservation Cotton Initiative (CCI), a program run by the Wildlife Conservation Society. To bring the effort full circle, the shirts are being made by eco-ethical company edunLIVE, which was founded by Bono and his wife, Ali Hewson...

The British Are Coming
Showcasing tour info and new music from UK bands worthy of your attention.
Freebass, a collection of British bass playing royalty (Peter Hook, Andy Rourke and Mani), will be making their live debut next month in Manchester. It's rumored that Liam Gallagher and Ian Brown will be manning the vocal post for this special performance. The trio finished up their debut album that will feature vocal contributions from Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie and Charlatan's Tim Burgess.
Dashing Danish duo, The Raveonettes, will embark on a North American Tour in support of their latest album Lust, Lust Lust, which will see a US release on February 19th. Expect them knocking on the Double Door February 18th.
Sensitive Danceteria Types, Hot Chip, will also embark on a North American tour to support their latest album Made In The Dark, due out February 5th. The Vic Theatre welcomes them April 17th.
Mogwai, Primal Scream, Teenage Fanclub, Jesus and Mary Chain; just a sampling of great Scottish bands that have one way or another rocked their way into our hearts. Glasvegas is sure to be the next entry. Glasvegas are the most exciting doo-wop rockabilly band that Glasgow has ever produced. Well, they're the only doo-wop rockabilly band Glasgow has ever produced. Their greaser looks and echo chamber hooks are sure to please any purist and convert any cynic.
