The Week That Was

The best thing about Kanye and Lady Gaga touring together--and co-performing at that--is the possibility that their costumes will become entangled and they will accidentally make a baby. That seems plausible.

Friday: Awhile ago, I mentioned that Cat Power and Juliette Lewis planned to tour together this summer. Just in time for me to get over my “WTF” feelings about the whole thing, they’ve released dates! They’re making this an August thing, and plan to hit loads of locations ranging from Connecticut to California. Check the whole schedule here

Saturday: Along with Away We Go, 500 Days of Summer is the one movie (besides HARRY POTTER) that I cannot wait to see. Yes, it’s got Zooey Deschanel playing herself for the most part, but it’s also got Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I still haven’t gotten over my 3rd Rock From the Sun-era crush on him. Oh, and it’s also got a fantastic soundtrack, featuring tracks from Wolfmother, Simon & Garfunkel, She & Him (covering The Smiths), Feist, and Carla Bruini. Look for the soundtrack on July 14.

Sunday: 31-year-old singer-songwriter Jeff Hanson was found dead in his St. Paul, MN home on Friday. Reports state that a “fall or other accident” was to blame.

Monday: Since they count Kathleen Hanna as a member, and I love me some old-school riot grrls, I’ve got a place in my heart for Le Tigre. However, it’s been 5 years since their last album, and all of the members have been busy at work on other projects. Thank GOD they’re back in one of the best ways possible: working in the studio with Christina Aguilera. Talk all the smack you want, but the girl can sing. And if she’s bringing in the beats of Le Tigre for her next album, you better believe I’m going to listen to it.

Tuesday: Oh, Twitter. I haven’t succumbed to this latest social network, and I feel like I’ll be able to hold out for at least a few more weeks. I say weeks only because when I hear about Patrick Wolf twittering about his arrest, it’s quite difficult for me not to join up and stalk along. Apparently, Wolf was arrested Monday night in San Francisco for spitting in a bouncer’s face. Since Wolf twittered the whole thing, our British boy is obviously not in jail, and his tour will be unaffected by this little fit.

Wednesday: Apparently this is the week where I admit my shameful love for rather shameful artists. First, I broke down my love for Lady Aguilera, and now, I’m making room for another lady: The GaGa. I’m deliriously excited to report that this one-woman circus is set to tour with the only person who might be more high-maintenance than her: Kanye West. No dates have been released yet, but I’ll devote loads of words to the schedule when it’s unveiled.

Thursday: Time to unearth your mourning veils and black armbands, everyone: Trent Reznor can no longer be found on social networking sites. Citing the oft-used excuse of “these sites do more harm than good,” he’s disconnecting from the virtual world. Then again, this was posted to the NIN message board yesterday, so I’m thinking he won’t be signing off for too long.

Let’s get a woo(!) for Bonnaroo starting today. Anyone who’s anyone will be making an appearance, including Girl Talk (in a bitchin’ early A.M. slot, no less), Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Santigold, Phish, and Grizzly Bear. Here’s wishing those currently pitching tents an entertaining and dirty weekend.
