We've Got You Covered: Amy Millan and 'I Will Follow You Into The Dark'
Amy Millan of Stars covers Death Cab's 'I Will Follow You Into The Dark.'
You would know Amy Millan from her stints in Stars and Broken Social Scene. You would know Death Cab For Cutie as their stint as, well, being Death Cab For Cutie. A proverbial indie powerhouse, Death Cab didn’t quite receive commercial success until their release of Plans, which just so happen to have “I Will Follow You Into The Dark.”
The original was a slow, sad and sorrowful song about losing someone. Millan takes the track and makes it an alternative/country version that is more or less, happy. Take a listen to Amy Millan’s “I Will Follow You Into The Dark” below.

Nice to Meet You: Volcano Choir
Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon takes a break with Volcano Choir.
Bon Iver brainchild, Justin Vernon, and Collections of Colonies of Bees have teamed up to form indie/ambient powerhouse Volcano Choir. The group released their first album, Unmap, in late 2009. Vocano Choir’s sound, much like Bon Iver, is centrally focused around Vernon’s soft, endlessly overdubbed vocals. Collections of Colonies of Bees, featuring past members of Wisconsin band Pele, provide a captivating backdrop to Vernon’s vocals; filled with the twists and turns that might be expected out of a group that formed in order to explore traditional folk music when fused with modern technology and process. While some tracks seem to flow dreamily on past, others take a more experimental approach and bell, whistles and sounds of all other origins can be heard throughout; however, a huge departure from Bon Iver this is not. While the music has undoubtedly changed a bit, it isn’t anything I’d classify as drastic. Oh yeah, and there’s even auto-tune. How about that?

The Sword Return To The Studio To Record New Album
The Sword join with producer Matt Bayles to record new album
It's been two years since Austin metal band the Sword released new material but they have a good excuse. After two albums that launched them to the top, the band has been busy touring with none other than Metallica on their worldwide tour until May of last year. Now the Sword are ready to kick thing back into gear and are entering the studio with producer Matt Bayles, responsible for producing Mastadon, Isis, and Minus the Bear, to start recording their third album. The band started to write their upcoming album in August and has described it as a "concept album centered around an original science fiction narrative." Sign me up.
The Sword's new album will be released later this year on Kemado Records. The band will also be performing at SXSW this year at Austin's own Stub's with metal legends Motorhead on March 16th.
