News For Now
Michael Jackson pulls a Tupac, Animal Collective continues to splinter into Animal Solo, and James Murphy is gonna make you dance.
Ah, yes. How on earth could I have thought for a second that Michael Jackson's music would die with the man himself? This November, a brand-spanking new 10-song album from MJ will drop, though no one's really saying what decade these new tracks come from. However, as his manager said to Rolling Stone, there are "more than 100 completed and unreleased songs" out there, ranging from his more contemporary period to his undeniably awesome Thriller/Bad years. Yeah, just try to guess which era I'm hoping this album will reference.
I know I've said this before, but I just love how precious Animal Collective's imprint is--Paw Tracks! Preciousness aside, another member of the Animal clan is going solo: Avey Tare. It's called Down There, and you'll be able to hear it on October 26. Warning: according to a press release, it's inspired by Tare's favorite animals--otters and crocodiles. Hmmm...
Here's something that doesn't confuse me at all. An LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chip tour! Well, the U.S. portion of it is sort of secret for right now, except for an October 22 stop in Milwaukee and an October 15 appearance at Hollywood Bowl. Once we know more (apparently, I write this article with a team of experts), we'll clue you in.
