Cee-Lo teams With Rick Ross
Rick Ross' fourth album comes out soon, whether you like it or not.
Ricky Ross has a speckled past in hip-hop, what with his previous correctional officer occupation, bickering back and forth last year with 50 Cent and his albums that only yielded a single or two worth of music (see Port of Miami and Trilla). But that doesn't mean ole’ Ricky hasn’t been growing as an artist, selling hundreds of thousands of records and increasing critics reviews with each release. Kanye even gave Ross’ Junior album Deeper Than Rap his highest honor, also one of the best Rap albums of 2009.
Now, Rick Ross’ fourth full-length album Teflon Don nears musical consumption, releasing July 20. Anticipation for something golden could not be more prominent after 2009’s Deeper Than Rap. The artist has been hot on the campaign trail; with promo materials from his July 13 show in Chicago for song “MC Hammer” featuring Gucci Mane. The video doesn’t have the best audio, but oozes the right energy, not to mention Puff Daddy approves.
We recently wrapped our ears around “Tears of Joy” with artist Cee-Lo. It can be heard below so you can get your toes wet. The album features a wealth of hip-hop giants (Kanye, Jay-Z, T.I., Gucci, Diddy) alongside some excellent R&B artists (Erykah Badu, John Legend, Cee-lo, Chrisette Michele) instilling hope in us for an album featuring banging-beat, brag-filled tracks while weaving musically-inspired, contemplative songs weaving their way throughout the album.
We haven’t heard much more that three songs from the album, and only one (B.M.F.) has officially been released as a single, so theirs no way we can pass judgment until we’ve heard the album in its entirety. But we can hope. Have a listen to “Tears of Joy.” Teflon Don in stores July 20. Please, Ricky, make sure your Florida friend DJ Khalid doesn’t find any place on this one. Please.
