The Roots Announce Release Date Of Next LP 'How I Got Over You'
Monsters of Folk, John Legend, Joanna Newsom and Dice Raw among the many featured artists
The Roots have been hard at work recording their next album How I Got Over You for a while now, in between performing for Jimmy Fallon, and soon will bear the fruits of their labor. The album has been announced for release June 22nd, will contain 13 tracks (with one bonus, making the total 14) and includes 12-featured artists.
?uestlove spoke a while back with Ms Drama TV on the album concept, discussing that the entire idea of the album lies within a fork in the band’s middle-aged lives. Due to the ages of the group members, ?uestlove addresses that the band can’t just rap about slangin’ rocks or a wicked jump shot anymore. While ?uesto may be in his 40s, youth shines within their featured artists on the album. Here’s the track listing for you:
1. Interlude 1 feat. Amber Coffman, Angel Deradoorian & Haley Dekle of Dirty Projectors
2. Walk Alone feat. Truck North, P.O.R.N. & Dice Raw
3. Dear God 2.0 feat. Monsters Of Folk
4.Radio Daze feat. Blu, P.O.R.N. & Dice Raw
5. Now Or Never feat. Phonte & Dice Raw
6. How I Got Over feat. Dice Raw
7. Interlude 2
8. The Day feat. Blu, Phonte & Patty Crash
9. Right On feat. Joanna Newsom & STS
10. Doin' It Again
11. The Fire feat. John Legend
12. Interlude 3
13. Web 20/20 feat. Peedi Peedi & Truck North
14. (BONUS) Hustla feat. STS
To be honest, we’ve been excited to hear Amber, Angel and Haley of The Dirty Projectors work with The Roots again ever since ?uest posted this video in his dressing room. Now, the Bronx natives debut the album with The Roots. Tight. We’re also interested to hear “The Fire” with John Legend. Considering The Roots and Legend will launch a collaborative album in October for the Waiting for Superman documentary, this song should provide a taste of things to come.
Additionally, we also got our hands on “Dear God 2.0” for you to listen to that features My Morning Jacket’s Jim James. It should be noted that James isn’t on the final tracklisting for “Dear God 2.0” so consider this an alternate version to the final until the album launches. How I Got Over You launches June 22nd, be ready for the ‘best band in late-night’ to perform to their fullest on this mid-life crises concept of an album.
