The Week That Was

Sometimes we post shorter versions of columns that are regularly much longer. They are like baby versions. Even though infants are merciless, ever-shitting, tear factories.

Tuesday: This is a slightly abbreviated week, because y’all got a pop culture treat a few days ago that I like to call “The Week that Was: The Extended Edition.” So, if you’re looking for the weekend-Monday round-up, check last week’s article.

Now, onto more important business. Tuesday. Anyone who has seen Matt & Kim live knows just how crazy they can get. If Matt’s not standing on top of the crowd, then Kim has abandoned the beat to jump on top of her drum set and scream along with their fans. Unfortunately, all of these antics can lead to some injuries. The duo has cancelled the remaining show in their tour so that Matt can nurse a back injury he sustained over the weekend. They’ve hazily planned to reschedule the shows sometime this summer, but no word on exact dates. Feel better, Matt!

Wednesday: OK, even the most prolific artists can have some fun with April Fools’ Day, as we saw with gags from Sufjan Stevens, Trent Reznor, and Coldplay. According to a Sufjan fan site, his next album will be titled Dela-where, and features some pretty adorable cover art. Almost seems legit. Trent Reznor boasted of a full-length NIN album, produced by none other than Timbaland. Title: Strobe Light. One of the track listings? “Everybody’s Doing It (featuring Chris Martin, Jay-Z, AND Bono)” Stellar. Finally, Coldplay said that they would be recording with Brian Eno in zero gravity on a Boeing 727. Sounds like a good time was had by all.

Thursday: While everyone may have been laughing up a storm yesterday, but Amanda Palmer of Dresden Dolls certainly wasn’t. She’s had her fair share of trouble with her label, Roadrunner Record, but it sounds like things have reached critical mass. Just so the label is aware of how she feels, she wrote a song titled “Please Drop Me,” with lyrics like “please drop me, what do I have to do?/I’m tired of sucking corporate dick.” Hmm…here’s hoping she gets released from her contract when it comes up for debate this June.
