Make Way for the S-O-V
Lady Sovereign readies us for upcoming album with new single.
Looks like Lady Sovereign popped out a new single in early February that I almost missed. The biggest midget in the game’s recent release, "So Human," is a bit more poppy than the usual Lady Sovereign that the world is used to - which is a mixture of good and bad. The song is very catchy, but I’d prefer when Lady Sovereign spits her fiery flame in past songs such as “Sad Ass Striper” or “Tango.” However, her snotty attitude remains as she expresses that she has the same problems as everyone else despite her rising star status. You may notice that it directly rips off (or nicely borrows) quite a bit from The Cure hit "Close To Me," including the keyboard and melody.
There is also a video to go along with the single that contains many attractive women and S-O-V sporting a hat with an extremely large brim that may or may not have its own gravitational pull. The video has Lady Sovereign tripping a green dressed celeb on the red carpet, seeking psychiatric help and posing on the covers of many faux magazines. A pretty decent video if you ask me.
The single “So Human” comes from here new album Jigsaw slated to release in the US April 7 and the UK on the 13. It’s a little funny that a UK rapper is getting an early release in the United States, but she is signed to Def Jam after all. You can also listen to the Jigsaw mixtape on the midget’s website. The tape contains many tracks from her past album Public Warning, mixed with some Jigsaw recordings and sampling from likes of Lil’ Wayne and Snoop Dogg.
Being a sucker for most things even remotely English, you can expect me picking up the album in April and sending some date proposals in the form of fan mail.
