Disappearing Funds
Dear Scarlett Johansson, I know that "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" was a well-reviewed, award-nominated film. But I just want you to know that I would watch a movie in which you chewed dirt for 2 hours. I swear to the Almighty. P.S. Please end your marriage so we can finally be together.
DVD/Blu-Ray: Pride and Glory vs. The Rocker vs. Vicky Cristina Barcelona
When it was initially released, Pride and Glory flew relatively under the radar. The plot is similar to a couple of other recent crime movies, The Departed and We Own the Night. The movie is about a multigenerational family of cops that’s struggling to deal with some hard realities and very tough choices. Special features will include a digital copy of the film and a making-of featurette as well as a few others. Pride and Glory is directed by Gavin O’Connor (Miracle) and stars Edward Norton (Death to Smoochy, Fight Club) and Colin Farrell (S.W.A.T., In Bruges).
The comedy option for this week is The Rocker. The movie is about a very talented drummer who is kicked out of his band right before they become one of the biggest acts in the world. Faced with reality, he must get a real job and abandon his dream. Twenty years later, another chance comes along and he joins his nephew’s band. No word yet on what special features are included, but there is a two-disc special edition that should include quite a bit of extra content. The Rocker is directed by Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty) and stars Rainn Wilson (The Office, Juno) and Christina Applegate (Anchorman, Employee of the Month).
This week’s option sure to be popular with all the ladies…and guys who are obsessed with Scarlett Johansson…is Vicky Cristina Barcelona. It’s a romance movie about two girlfriends who are on vacation in Spain when they both fall for the same painter, unaware that his ex-wife is about to re-enter the picture. As with The Rocker, no special features were announced before the release. Vicky Cristina Barcelona is directed by Woody Allen (Annie Hall, Small Time Crooks) and stars Scarlett Johansson (In Good Company, The Spirit), Penelope Cruz (Vanilla Sky, Sahara) and Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Collateral).
The Edge: It all depends on your preferences. You have a comedy, a romance, and a crime flick. Take your pick.
