Tha Carter IV--best prison break album yet? Is it possible that ANOTHER movie I haven't heard of is topping the box office? How many more questions can I ask?
Wow, I am behind on my Lil' Wayne Freedom Watch! According to...people...he's set for a November 5 release. As his is album, Tha Carter IV. Oh, and he might play a crazy "welcome back, boy!" gig at Madison Square Garden that same day. Someone is going to be a little busy bee! Though I think in this case, he would be a bi-zayy bee or something like that.
Alright, what the fuck? I'm learning so much more about Takers than I actually want to. Like Chris Brown is in it. And he served as an executive producer. Along with T.I., who's also starring in the movie. What. The. Hell. Oh, and thank God--Matt Dillon, Paul Walker, and Hayden Christensen came back from their acting graves to lend a hand. I think this might become my new source of rage--I was looking for an Avatar-esque scapegoat anyway. You'll fail yet, Takers! Please fail before I have to discover your plot.
Ah, Dirty Projectors. Weren't they one of last year's darlings? While I was never their biggest fan, I can always try to appreciate a band that gets everyone else worked up into a lather. For those of you that couldn't get enough of Bitte Orca, mark September 28 on your calendars. Their label Domino will release a double-disc expanded version of the album, complete with B-sides, acoustic performances, and a random cover of Bob Dylan's "As I Went Out One Morning" thrown in for good measure. Sounds like a worthy investment even if you're got the pared-down Bitte Orca already.

DC Universe Online whets the appetite of nerds everywhere
Sony Online Entertainment has begun the pre-release push for DC Universe Online this week. Available for pre-order on Steamworks (PC) or at Gamestop (PS3), this game has promise, if only for a short while. A stunningly well-written and animated intro cut-scene has been available for a while, if only to whet nerdy appetites...

News for Now
One of the greatest duos in the history of ever readies their new album, tragedy strikes at a Swell Season show, and Springsteen has a lot of unreleased material he wants you to hear.
It doesn't get better than this--Matt & Kim will be releasing Sidewalks on November 2. Eeeeek! I truly can't wait for this album--if it's half as catchy as Grand, I won't stop humming M&K tunes until Christmas. Way to improve upon the already stellar late fall season.
I'm a little late with this news, but last Thursday, a man committed suicide at a Swell Season show in Saratoga, California. The man (who has not yet been identified) jumped from the roof between songs and landed on stage mere feet away from Glen Hansard. Doctors from the audience and paramedics attempted to revive him, and after abandoning efforts, the show ended immediately. Swell Season issued this statement via Billboard: "The band, crew and all involved with them are shocked and saddened by the unfortunate events of last night. Their hearts go out to the victim and his friends and family."
I am a lover of current music. You know, the stuff kids listen to these days! As much as I love it though, I have a hard time thinking that some day, Best Coast is going to release a box set with vast amounts of unreleased material. Is it possible that some bands today are content to make just enough music to get by? I'm pondering these deep, deep matters thanks to the news that Bruce Springsteen is releasing a Darkness on the Edge of Town three-CD/three-DVD box set on November 6. It's got 21 unreleased tracks, original recordings, a "making-of" documentary, and an 80-page diary of sorts from the artist. So basically, for the classic rock fan in your life, your Christmas shopping is taken care of.

The Last Exorcism
A terrible ending ruins what would have been a passable demon story.
It’s no secret that PG-13 genre films are, most of the time, not very strong. This isn’t an argument born out of some “needs more tits and blood” ideal, but simply that horror by its very nature is hard to execute in a toned-down format. This said, sometimes you’ll find a gem or two (Drag Me to Hell, The Ring), but sometimes, you get The Last Exorcism...

Head to Head
What's the worst ancient disease? I Google'd "Butt Rot" but nothing (helpful) came up.

As ancient pandemics go, discussion often begins and ends with the Bubonic plague. That hog of the spotlight killed a few thousand people, and suddenly, everybody spent the next few centuries scared of things like rats and not washing your hands before you go out wearing your "Free Handshakes" sign...
