Business Casual Superstar
Rachel Berry makes me "Glee"ful. Did you see that? It's a pun. YOU'RE WELCOME.
I don't know if you guys are into fandom or not. Do you even know what it is? Do you frequent the blogs, the forums? Do you make fan art and fan vids and icons and fan mixes and fic? Do you LiveJournal? Yuku? InvisionFree? Proboards? Or do you have lives instead?
Chances are, you probably do fangurl (or fanboi, I suppose) things without even knowing it. Like, when you watch the Office...do you 'ship' Jim and Pam? That is, are you a fan of the characters insofar as their union as a couple? Do you loooove their scenes and often rewind and watch again? Do you squeal when you see a particularly cute scene for them in the promo for next week?
If so, you 'ship Jim and Pam. You are a Jim and Pam shipper. You fangurl them hard.
Sorry to break it to you, but you do.
So anyway, bringing us back to the subject of this week's post (back?), apparently, as far as the general Glee fandom goes, there's a very large group of fans that ship...wait for it....Rachel and Quinn.
That's right, these two:
That's some fan art for this 'couple.'
It's not very good.
:-|
So yes, there are actually people who think that this couple is hot and awesome and lovely and needs a story on screen. Now, I have nothing against lesbian romances, but...really? REALLY? It would be different if it was a Marci and Peppermint Patty situation. There's common ground and shared experiences there, as far as canon goes.
But Rachel and Quinn? They hate each other. And even when they got to the point that they didn't hate each other...they still hated each other. There is very little, if anything, to build on to make a romance even remotely plausible. And while I'm not saying it's impossible, I just think that efforts - even slow build efforts - to change that will likely seem contrived.
You know, more contrived than Glee already is.
So yeah, I'm one of those folks that's quite glad that this little 'romance' will never see the light of day. Or the light of the silver screen. You know what I mean.
You know, it just occurred to me, since I usually use TV characters as inspiration for these posts, every week, I'm going to find something crazy in that character's fandom - whatever ships exist - and share it. And then we can all laugh and be relieved that we are normal and not crazy-obsessed with fictional characters we see once a week, over the course of six months, with hiatuses. Hiatii?
Yes. So next week, be on the look out for something CRAZY from a given character's online fandom. It's going to be WILD YOU GUYS.
But back to the task at hand: this week's outfit is inspired by Rachel Berry. (Who I personally ship with Finn. But I don't ship them hardcore. It's not like I'll cry if they don't get together. Pff. Who cares?)
Anne Klein Pencil Skirt .......... $49 Ben Sherman Sweater .......... $30 Haste Flats in Black Satin ......... $19.98
This outfit is painfully simple. No, really: it pains me to have to explain it.
:-|
But seriously, folks. I picked this lovely black pencil skirt from Anne Klein, and was quite pleased to see that it was under $50. It's so rare to find actual pieces from AK that are under $50 and aren't, like, scarves. Or belts.
I paired it with this argyle sweater. Rachel Berry loves her argyle, and this is totally something she'd wear. In fact, it's very similar to a sweater she wore the day she blabbed about Quinn's peanut being Puck's peanut instead of Finn's.
As for shoes, Rachel almost always wears flats, and they're usually ballet-inspired with the rounded toe and little ankle straps. These work quite well, though. I'm real pleased with them. Couldn't you tell?
And there we have another Rachel Berry-inspired outfit. Tune in next week for some random outfit inspired by some random TV or movie character, and something from his/her (but most likely) fandom that will make you go WUT and then run away to hug your pets.
:D
