News for Now
Because Monday-Wednesday are crucial news days.
You know, when I first heard about the shitshow that went down at last weekend's Electric Daisy Festival in L.A., I thought "hmm...how on earth could something with such a charming name cause such pain in the world?" Here's the deal: over 100 people were hospitalized, and many of the injuries came from people trying to rush the gate and get past security. Oh, and because it is a rave festival, around half of the hospitalizations resulted from alcohol or drug use. C'mon, guys! Electric Daisy! Let's keep some things holy and safe, yeah?
This is slightly old news (eeek!), but Of Montreal has released the info for their latest album. It's called False Priest, and it'll drop on September 14. Prepare yourselves accordingly.
I have such an irrational crush on Elijah Wood, and news of his latest work hasn't helped to cure me of it. He's put together a benefit compilation album for The Art of Elysium, a nonprofit that has musicians come in and work with hospitalized kids. How wonderful. It also doesn't hurt that Elysium: The Art of Elysium, features tracks from Sonic Youth, Sleigh Bells, and The Soft Pack.
How did I miss this? I ask that question wayyy too often. I should probably pay attention more. Brian Wilson is doing a George Gershwin cover album!? Swoooooon. Brian Wilson Reimagines George Gershwin will be released on August 17.
