Business Casual Superstar

Lawyers always have the best fashion, particularly if they are fictional lawyers from "How I Met Your Mother."

Last week you guys hung out with my pal Kelly Kapoor from NBC's "The Office." She was nice enough to cover for me while I worked on my outlines for Bankruptcy Law and Evidence. This week, I'm back with an outfit inspired by Robin Scherbatsky from "How I Met Your Mother."

HIMYM, as the kids call it, is, in my opinion, the last great sitcom. (If anyone so much as even MENTIONS "Two and a Half Men," I am going to set fire to everything. That is not a sitcom. That is a crime against humanity.) I have episodes from all five seasons (so far) saved on my computer and I watch them on the train on Tuesdays and Thursdays when I have to ride home without the LawSchoolBFF. His presence is not missed, you guys, because I have Neil Patrick Harris and Jason Segel and Cobie Smulders to keep me company.

I really identify with the character of Robin Scherbatsky. She's young, single, career-minded, quirky, lame, has a small group of close friends, doesn't want to get married, is fiercely afraid of children, and loves guns.

I could be Robin Scherbatsky, you guys.

And then you'd be sorry.

You'd ALL be sorry.

>:(

Anyway, Robin is an anchorwoman and wears a lot of blazers on the job. Even when she's hanging out with the rest of the gang at McLaren's pub, she often wears little jackets and ruffly silk blouses, still pretty professional attire. So let's take a look at what I came up with.

Every Day Blazer in Ivy Plaid .......... $19.99 Colorblock Top .......... $12.99 Boot Cut Jeans .......... $15 Rampage Nikki Pump .......... $29.99 UO Stone Layering Necklace .......... $19.99

When Robin wears jeans, they are dark. I don't think I've ever seen her character in a pair of medium wash jeans. They're always dark, and there's a reason for that: dark jeans are much more professional looking than normal ones. It's really easy to dress them up, with the right shoes and accessories, of course.

Robin wears a lot of silk and ruffles, so I picked this purple and pink colorblock satin top. It's cinched in at the waist, which was pretty typical of Robin's tops until the actress, Cobie Smulders, got pregnant and they put her in a lot of really billowy tops until she lost all the baby weight.

She's got a huge collection of blazers as an anchorwoman, and I picked this darkish grey one from Chadwicks in ivy plaid. And as for shoes...Robin always wears awesome shoes. Awesome. They're just gorgeous. So I picked pumps that are in line with her style: they're professional and clean, with a high heel.

Last, I threw in a necklace. When it comes to her jewelry, Robin prefers small, delicate things. I don't think I've ever seen her wearing a chunky statement necklace. Her jewelry is dainty and feminine, and that's why I liked this layered necklace that matches the colors in the shirt.

And there we have a professional outfit inspired by Robin Scherbatsky! Tune in next week for an outfit inspired by Robin's pal, Lily Aldrin-Erikson from "How I Met Your Mother."
