Disappearing Funds

Looking to express a huge amount of douchebaggery via a video game purchase? Time to pick up Guitar Hero: Aerosmith

Movies: Hancock

Hancock isn't your typical super hero movie. Yes, he can fly. Yes, he has super strength. Yes, he's pretty much impervious to damage. Yes...he's kind of a dick. Will Smith stars as the title character who is a super hero in Los Angeles. Hancock doesn't really care what people think of him. He does save people's lives, but always seems to do so in a way that leaves more than an acceptable amount of collateral damage in his wake. After saving the life of a PR man, Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman), things start to change. Embrey takes it upon himself to do the impossible...make Hancock likeable.

DVDs: Vantage Point vs Drillbit Taylor

Not too long ago, theater-goers witnessed an assassination from multiple points of view in Vantage Point. This week, the thriller hits DVD. If you were expecting a release packed with special features, you'll be slightly disappointed. The two-disc edition isn't as packed as the price tag might have you believe. For your cash you'll get a digital copy of the film, a deleted scene (that's right, a single deleted scene), interviews with the cast and crew, a commentary with the director, and an interview with first-time screenwriter Barry Levy. The big question...is the movie worth your money?

Another release competing for your money this week is Drillbit Taylor. The Seth Rogen-penned comedy flick is about a bodyguard (Owen Wilson) who is hired by some kids to keep bullies away from them. The two-disc unrated edition is chock-full of extras. Included are a commentary, an interview with writers Seth Rogen and Kristofor Brown, additional scenes, gag reel, and over 15 different featurettes that hope to keep you laughing after you've finished the movie.

The Edge: Vantage Point. The DVD doesn't have as many extras, but the movie is much better.

Games: Guitar Hero: Aerosmith (Multiple)

Only one game release this week is even worth mention, and even then it's probably not worth purchasing unless you're a die-hard Aerosmith fan. If that applies to you, please email me so I can punch you. Seeking to squeeze every milk every last cent out of the cash-cow that is Guitar Hero, Activision is releasing an unholy beast upon the world with Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. The game features over 40 new songs (only 8 or so of which are actually worth playing) and stars the members of that somehow-not-dead-yet rock band. If you feel like dropping $60 for the game or $90 for the game and an Aerosmith-themed guitar then by all means, grab this one. Those of us who like good music in our rhythm games will be passing on this one.
