News for Now

Alliteration and cultural news mini-round-ups: two things that never go out of style.

First and foremost, feel free to offer up suggestions for this article title, HEAVE readers. The only other one I had been mulling over was "Newsies." Given my intense fear of copyright lawyers though, I decided to steer clear of that. For now. So, why am I rambling? Right. Since the cultural world (and by that I mean Miley Cyrus' sexuality) blossoms at a rate faster than anyone can measure, posting one big news round-up per week didn't make too much sense. It's downright disorienting to read something about, say, Lil' Wayne dropping a new single on Friday and then find out seconds later that he's in jail on Wednesday. So, we're gonna try to keep your head on straight by posting some mini-round-ups a few times per week. Mmmk? Mmmk. 1) OK, I know that the last thing I should be posting about is "Twilight," but this is so ridiculous that it needs to be mentioned. The obvious upside to the recession is that since no one has a job, they (meaning people in California that are doing this) can afford to camp out for the "Eclipse" premiere A WHOLE DAMN WEEK ahead of time. Seriously? I could pardon you all if it was opening this weekend. But it doesn't open until Wednesday. Go volunteer somewhere. 2) Most collaborations make me grasp my face "Home Alone"-style while I try to comprehend how those musicians know each other. Not this one. I'm mainly just clutching my heart thinking about how great it is. Bjork and Dirty Projectors. Last May, those kids all put together a "suite" called "Mount Wittenberg Orca" to benefit a housing charity in Manhattan. And now, they've recorded an updated version for digital release on June 30. This time, the National Geographic Society will benefit from their creativity.
