If only teenage girls still listened to music. Not that they don't, but there is a reason Marsha Brady was president of the Davy Jones fan club. The days of swooning over the dreamiest of dreamboats and keeping track of who was at the top-a-most of the pop-a-most are no more. Unfortunate, especially for a band like Someone Still Loves You Boris Yelstin.

Pershing, the latest album from SSLYBY, is as close to an audio copy of a 1970 issue of Teen Beat as you can get. Sure there's some cute guys and girls with great hair in between the pages, but also a lot of useless information our young minds will forget in five minutes.

That's not to say SSLYBY is to be dismissed entirely. We need more bands these days willing to be, well, conventional. Their grasp of Redd Kross hooks and Apples In Stereo harmonies is highly admirable. Opening track and obvious single "Glue Girls" is pure fun, recalling "Between The Bridges" era Sloan. "Modern Mystery" borders on Wrens-like material but never really reaches that level of emotion. "HEERS" veers into Elliot Smith territory and offers that summertime breezy interlude that Pershing needs more of.

Pershing is a decent album from a band not out to challenge us, just to remind us that simple pop tunes still matter. SSLYBY may never fit on a marquee, but they might find a little place in your heart.

High Point: "Glue Girls" could be a Summertime hit.

Low Point: "Think I Wanna Die" is a dull wanderer.

Quick Point: SSLYBY talent deserves more attention than their name.
