Southern Hospitality Courtesy of The Whigs
The Whigs bring back a nostalgic sound that wasn't that long ago.

Many bands suffer from the 90's nostalgia syndrome. Whether it be the chart topping Wal-Mart friendly Nickelback, or the charming supergroup known as Velvet Revolver, the 90's Alice In Chains Seattle dirge is alive and well. Now I'm not comparing The Whigs with any of that clap trap but they do manage to ride that 90's rock wave the masses never bothered to surf. Bands like Sebadoh, The Lemonheads and Sugar represented the pop side of grunge that few bothered to entertain. The Whigs fall somewhere into that ravine.
The Whigs call Athens, GA home and were touted as a "Band To Watch" by someone at Rolling Stone. Deservedly so, very few three piece bands can exert as much gentle power as The Whigs do. Songs like "Right Hand On My Heart" and "Need You Need You" recall that disturbed innocence creeping about Paul Westerberg's brain, while "Hot Bed" is an unabashed story taken from Pat DiNizio's song book.
Mission Control is a solid set of laid back Southern hospitality. Nothing mind blowing, but strangely refreshing in a time when most bands are trying way to hard to blow their own.
