Ween Stays Offensive Yet Good.

Ween's first album in four years doesn't disappoint.

I've enjoyed the bizarre antics of Ween for a very long time. Fans of the bands' previous output will certainly not be disappointed. Lately however, I find myself being unable to listen to much of the pre-Mollusk era Ween albums. Between the vulgarity and the sheer experimental goofiness, I have found that I'm no longer captivated by the earlier releases. Not that the more recent albums are necessarily any less vulgar; they are simply more accessible in their catchiness. Gene screams, "She's gonna be my cock professor studying my dick, she's gonna get a master's degree in f**kin me," on the hard rocking "With My Own Bare Hands." La Cucaracha shows that Dean and Gene Ween are still complete musical chameleons. There is a reggae song ("The Fruit Man"), a ballad ("Lullaby") and of course the country tinged "Learnin to Love." "Your Party" showcases some great 80's style saxophone; it's as good as any of Richard Marx's best work. The fact that every song can be linked to a different genres is what makes this release so damn fun.

Die-hards will love this album, those unfamiliar with Ween will find it offensive and casual fans will be entertained. Just like the cockroach on the cover, Ween is going to be around for the long haul.
