Daft Punk Comes Alive
Alive 2007 is the perfect album, and still doesn't do their live show justice.
Daft Punk
Alive 2007
Released on Nov 30, -0001
I'm a firm believer that until you see Daft Punk live - you can't fully understand the sheer genius of the great electronic dance duo. I had high expectations for their release Alive 2007, a live album recorded in their homeland of Paris, France in June of this year. The actual hard copy of the album was released worldwide November 19th, and is also currently available digitally worldwide. Due to production issues, the hard copy of the album will be available in the U.S. December 4th. Sounds like the perfect Christmas present to ask for this season, and let me tell you why.
Although buying an album digitally is always convenient and is instant gratification, sometimes it's better to buy the full package, and Alive 2007 is a great example of doing just this. The hard copy special edition of the album comes with a second disc that includes the full encore and music video for "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger." Also included is a 50-page booklet of photography taken during the past year of touring. And why does all of this matter so much when getting this release? Because Daft Punk is completely taken to a whole new level if you can see photography and video of their live show. I always loved the tight beats and amazing mixes that Daft Punk produces, but their live show made me a complete fan, and Alive 2007 sets out to help convert the more casual listeners into die-hard fist pumping fans. You can hear the sound quality and levels transitioning throughout the show, hear the audience screaming and singing along, thus the true energy that Daft Punk possesses really shines through on this live album.
Alive 2007 lets anyone who wasn't able to catch the duo on tour this past year hear exactly what their sad sorry soul missed. Live the band mixes their classics, blending them together into a seamless high-octane show. Standout tracks include an even better than the original performance of "One More Time" mixed with "Aerodynamic," and the single "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger," which is mixed in with elements of "Television" and "Around the World."
Alive 2007 is a great purchase, whether it be for an avid fan or a first time listener of Daft Punk. It gives the broad scope of their talent and what the duo's music is all about, while also giving a real feel of the experience of seeing them in the flesh (or robotic chrome in their case). So if you pass by my apartment building anytime soon, and see some crazy girl pumping her fist and dancing like she's at a rave back in '95, pay no unnecessary attention. I'm just listening to my Daft Punk.
