A More Mature Hello

Say Hi To Your Mom has gone through a name change, but how is the newest album?

Say Hi

Wishes and the Glitch

Released on Oct 16, 2007

You can't help but give credit to Say Hi for changing their name to a less pre-pubescent phrase, as Say Hi To Your Mom was something I thought was funny to say when I was in sixth grade (but then again, "that's what she said" will never die). Although the name has changed, the Say Hi kid is back with a fourth release, The Wishes and the Glitch.

Wishes and the Glitch is much like the name change that Say Hi went through. Elbogen has allowed his music to grow up and ends up delivering an album that really can't be considered any sort of novelty. The vampire references are gone, replaced by sensible lyrics that sink their teeth into subject matter that most people would consider normal (although there are a few references to some magic beans).

Elbogen has one of the better pop sensibilities found in indie music today. The ability to glide the listener through his albums with engaging, moody synthesizers, along with a calm yet shaky and unsure voice that makes it seem like Elbogen was weary about the idea of letting his recordings filter out of his apartment in the first place. It's charming more than anything, and gives Wishes a more new wave feel than any other release that Say Hi has had.

Everything seems to be taken more serious on Wishes, and it's all for the better. Say Hi has continually gotten better with each release, and I'm hoping it only gets better from here.
