Gold Panda Offers Free Download of New Single
Gold Panda releases details on new album, offers new single for free
English and Japanese electronic music are two very different beasts. Though two artists may use the same techniques the end product turns out radically different because of the local scene and culture. Gold Panda's upcoming album Lucky Shiner combines the best of both worlds. An Englishman by birth, Gold Panda spent the last two years studying Japanese culture, language, and history at the School of Oriental and Asian Studies in Japan while immersing himself in the music scene. "Lots of factors affected the way it came together," he explains about writing Lucky Shiner. "Touring, mixing, moving houses and splitting with a girlfriend. Family, friends, and lovers, places I've never been."
His new single "Snow & Taxis" combines chimes and punturing beats in a a bubbly, synchopated dance beat. "I didn’t want to write "beats"," says Gold Panda, "I didn't want bangers. I wanted songs with structure.” Which "Snow & Taxis" definitely has. It's not the droning techno in your nearby sub-par dance club. It's music to enjoy, whether you want to dance or not. You can download the new track through Gold Panda's website in exchange for your email address, or stream the track through Soundcloud. Lucky Shiner comes out October 12 on Ghostly International. Gold Panda will headline Brooklyn's Grasslands on August 30 before starting a fall tour with shoegazers Autolux.
