Wavves Sets Release Date For "King Of The Beach."
Wavves announce details for new album "King Of The Beach."
Wavves had a crazy year in 2009. Admist the meltdowns, rivalries and addictions the band released their second studio album Wavves which launched them into the touring circuit. The band is putting the drama behind them this year and preparing their third album King of the Beach, which promises more sun-drenched 60s psychedelia. "There was a conscious effort going into this that I didn't want to make the same record again. I already made the same record twice, with the same fucking cover art," said lead singer Nathan Williams in a press release about King of the Beach. "It wasn't overbearing, but I didn't want to recreate something I'd done. I wanted to make something bigger, something stronger." Cementing the band's sound had proven difficult in the past, but producer Dennis Herring was up to the task. Between his professional need for perfectionism and Williams's pension for bursts of creativity and at time corrosive style, King of the Beach became a new venture entirely. "Without sounding cheesy, we all wanted to make something inspiring," says Williams. "It's the type of thing where you have this much, but you could have more, so go get it."
King of the Beach is due out August 3 on Fat Possum. The band, which now includes bassist Steve Pope and drummer Billy Hayes formerly of Jay Reatard, are also doing a short June tour before their date at Lollapalooza.
