New Music From Chiddy Bang
Chiddy Bang releases ‘Air Swell’ for free – samples Hot Chip.
The time has come for you to get familiar with Chiddy Bang. What better way than a free seven-song mixtape launched by this rapper/producer duo earlier this week. Entitled Air Swell, this tape features projects this electronic hip-hop artist worked on while finishing up their debut album. The group has been proclaimed an MTVu freshman of the week while being freshman in college themselves. Crazy. The duo consists of emcee Chiddy and composer Xanphoon Jones, who are based in Philidelphia, but are signed to UK record label Parlophone. The label houses big name artist like Gorillaz, Hot Chip, Coldplay and plenty of other successes.
Chiddy Bang has the talent to reach levels of accomplishment Parlophone artists are familiar with; not one of their songs we have heard have failed our ears. They aren’t afraid to sample Passion Pit, MGMT, Mos Def or Mary Poppins. These guys are a perfect mesh for electronica lovers that can’t always bridge the gap to full-on hip-hop. If you haven’t seen their take on MGMT’s “Kids” then you should definitely watch this video. Air Swell alone features artists Kate Nash, Ellie Goulding, Hot Chip and La Roux, that clearly take advantage of Parlophone’s prolific catalog of UK artists. Xanphoon lays down the beats while Chiddy tears them all up.
Chiddy Bang aims to launch their debut album this summer (some sources are whispering August) and we look forward to any singles or side-projects these guys drop before. We’re going to need something to keep us satiated for the coming months. Download Chiddy Bang’s Air Swell and take-off. Or, if you’re not convinced, listen to my personal favorite “Hey London” below.
