Nice to Meet You: Caroline Smith and the Good Night Sleeps
Caroline Smith gives folk-pop at its finest.
Take a dash of Ingrid Michaelson’s style, some of Arrah and the Ferns grittiness, and the theatrics of Joanna Newsom and stir in some psudeo-southern folk twists and you’re left with the fantastic Caroline Smith and the Good Night Sleeps. Based in Minneapolis, singer/songwriter Caroline Smith, along with her band, The Good Night Sleeps, bring about excellent some excellent tunes.
The group’s first album, Backyard Tent Set, was released in fall 2008. Full of lush acoustic guitars, keyboards, harmonica, banjo, and light percussion, the instrumentation really brings out all Caroline Smith’s voice has to offer, and that’s something not to be missed.
After the release of their album the band got a fair bit of touring under their belt and returned to their respective duties back home. In 2009, the group was featured on Daytrotter and recorded their new live album, Live at The Cedar, which was released in January 2010.
Be sure to catch this feisty foursome on their spring tour throughout the Midwest and east coast. Their Myspace has dates and other news. Listen to a few of their songs below.
