Nice To Meet You: The Builders and The Butchers

More rustic folk from the rugged North by The Builders and The Butchers.

Within a three-year period, five young native Alaskans relocated to Portland, Oregon with hopes of pursuing a career in music.  As the story goes, one rainy, Pacific northwestern day in 2007, all five young men gather in a friend’s home to see what singer/songwriter Ryan Sollee had been working on.  His unique mix of American folk roots music and punk rock background soon brought inspiration to his fellow musicians and in no time at all The Builders and The Butchers had formed.

Starting initially as a fully acoustic group, the band serenaded passersby at street corners and wherever they could find an audience, but it wasn’t long before they started playing sold out shows and landing supporting gigs on tour with some pretty big names. In 2007, the band released their self-titled LP.  By the end of 2008, the band had won Willamette Week’s “Best New Band of 2008” and Seattle Sound’s “Best Live Performers 2008” had toured just finished tours with Brand New, Langhorn Slim, Murder by Death, and Port O’brien.

In the summer of 2009, The Builders and The Butchers released their second album, Salvation Is A Deep Dark Well.  Acoustic guitar, acoustic bass, banjo, mandolin, and drums make up the band’s instrumental repertoire; however, horns, piano, accordion, strings, and all other manner of instrument usually find their way into the mix by the end of things.  These instruments are used to channel a gospal-esque folk/bluegrass medley that will leave you begging for more.

The Builders and The butchers are currently on tour with RX Bandits and Zechs Marquise.
