Lupe Plans 21 Stop Tour
Lupe announces tour dates; Kanye releases new video.
Releasing a video for a song that debuted on the 2008 album 808s and Heartbreaks seems a bit belated. Maybe even a bit asinine. But Kanye West and director Nabil Elderkin’s visualization for the track “Coldest Winter” popped up on the iTunes Monday, Feb. 22 and we aren’t complaining (The video has since been pulled from the store but could be back up when you read this). Elderkin addressed in an MTV interview that Yeezy doesn’t appear in the video and neither did he have hand in the editing process. The original recording isn’t present either; a more atmospheric remix replaces the track. Kanye did approve the video to be released, however, so he must have been satisfied with it despite being minimally involved.
The video proves a bit purposefully voluptuous, but takes advantage of silhouettes and dark imagery to successfully create a haunting atmosphere for one of Yeezy’s most emotional tracks. Elderkin and Ye have worked together before on videos for “Welcome to Heartbreak” and “Paranoid.” Sure it may be weird watching a video for a year-and-a-half old video, but Elderkin’s work still stimulates the eyeballs (in a good way).
Amongst Kanye’s video release, Lupe Fiasco has also announced his U.S. dates for his tour “Steppin Laser” that will have B.o.B. opening for him at most venues. So far 21 cities have been released, but Lupe’s blog insists that there will be more added. If your city is missing, now might be the time to chime in. Tickets aren’t on sale currently, but as soon as they do be ready. We expect there to be plenty of Lupe’s new album to be performed on this tour, something not to be missed.
