New Music From The Courteeners
The Courteeners deliver ‘You Over Did It Doll’ off of new album 'Falcon.'
Last year while Morrissey was flopping about the stage at the Aragon Ballroom, you may have still had the opening bands' songs sending tapping messages to your toes. I certainly did, Morrissey’s set was a real snooze and I kept picturing Boz Boorer holding a telephone up to his ear. It has to be one of the best and worse jobs opening for Morrissey. For one, he has to love your band, and you have to worship him. Unfortunately, his psychotic audience is only there to see their king and therefore pay you no heed. The Courteeners gained at least one new fan that night.
The Courteeners are a band that really do merit the coveted title of "hailing from Manchester." Their Stephen Street (Blur, Smiths) produced debut, St. Jude, is simple in its approach and slam dancingly fun in its execution. Judging from first single, "You Overdid It Doll,” follow-up album, Falcon, produced by Ed Buller (Suede) promises a new found sophistication. If this chorus doesn't catch you immediately, I feel sorry for you and whatever children you may bare in the future.
Falcon will be available in the UK February 22 via Polydor
