'Felt 3: A Tribute to Rosie Perez' Released
Murs, Slug and Aesop Rock give an eclectic grab bag.
November 17th has passed and saw Felt 3: A Tribute to Rosie Perez release. The rap duo Murs and Slug have teamed up with Aesop rock to bring a nice mix of strong versus, interesting, atmospheric beats and the trippy interludes only Aesop could bring to an album. What results with this trio is an album with almost twice as many tracks as any other Felt release. Aesop Rock’s spacey beats definitely show through in the “break” songs like “Get Cake” or “The Clap.” Overall the album probably proves to be a psychedelic experience for many.
As expected, Aesop does make some lyrical appearances, but they aren’t more than a few hooks here and there. This makes it mostly Murs and Slug’s territory to tell a story like talking shit about hipsters, supposed artists, Kevin Spacey, the Black Eyed Pees, or Pee-Wee Herman actor Paul Ruebins. Not much Rosie in the lyrics. In fact, maybe it truly is a tribute to her. Whether it is or not, we’ll let you decide after you listen.
Murs and Slug opened the release with a show at Fifth Element in Minneapolis. Tour dates to support the new album should soon follow. Interestingly enough, we haven't seen a music video for the album yet; hopefully one is in the works as we speak. Felt 3 proves to be the strongest the duo, scratch that; the trio has created to date. If you haven't picked up the album yet, lend “Glory Burning’ your ears and then do so now.
