Asleep In The Bread Aisle
A fitting release date for Asher Roth's album. Go check it out.
Asher Roth’s debut album, Asleep in the Bread Aisle, released April 20 and is available to listen to for free on his myspace. A very fitting release date (one track is entitled “Blunt Cruisin’”) to an album that is all about smoking weed, drinking beer, living the college life, bad days and staying single.
The album has been anticipated ever since Roth’s mixtape The Greenhouse Effect was released summer ‘08 and was produced by the likes of DJ Drama and Don Cannon. His first single “I Love College” helped to develop Roth’s heavy following, and leaking songs such as “Lark on My Go Kart” and “La Di Da” helped continue the hype. Hell, the kid already has three music videos prior to his first album releasing. An obligatory video for first single “I Love College,” a comedic cartoon for “Lark on my Go-Kart” and a semi-parody to tune of Jay-Z cleverly entitled “Roth Boys.”
Even though his first single “I Love College” wears thin after a maybe a half-dozen listens, collaborations with Cee-lo, Keri Hilson and Busta Rhymes produce some worthwhile listens on Roth’s first album. The album is available on iTunes now for the low price of $7.99 for 14 tracks. Pretty worth it in my opinion.
Unfortunately, no bonus music videos are offered by buying the whole album, bummer. “Lark on my Go-Cart” would be a video I would definitely want on my iPod for the sheer fact that an animated Teddy Ruxpin (yes, this shit has a website, ridiculous) is involved.
At first listen, Asher Roth is astoundingly similar to that of Eminem but has his own unique lyrically flow to offer the hip-hop world.
