Super Groups Unite!

The Dirty Projectors and David Byrne lend their talent to Dark Was the Night

There’s nothing we like more than a superstar collaboration.  Queen and Bowie.  Aerosmith and Run DMC.  Timbaland and Justin Timberlake (although we hate to admit it).  And now, the Dirty Projectors and David Byrne.  This power duo recorded the song “Knotty Pine” for the upcoming compilation Dark Was the Night which also features contributions from Sufjan Stevens, The Decemberists, Andrew Bird,Spoon, and many more bands us indie kids go crazy for.  There are a couple of notable team-ups other than the Dirty Projectors and David Byrne, such as Ben Gibbard and Feist and Conor Oberst and Gillian Welch.

Dark Was the Night benefits the Red Hot Organization, an international charity dedicated to spread awareness about HIV and AIDS through pop culture.  Red Hot Organization puts out a benefit album yearly to promote the idea that HIV/AIDS is a preventable disease and knowledge and research are the best weapons to cure it.  Produced by Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National (who also appear on the album), Dark Was the Night features thirty-two exclusive tracks.  This two-disc album comes out February 17th on 4AD Records and is also available on vinyl and as a digital download.
