Jarvis lends a hand, Foals triumph, Massive Attack plan the future and The Kills get cheery.
Jarvis Cocker and The Gossip's Beth Ditto will be releasing a charity single via Itunes. The single is their peformance of Heaven 17’s “Tempation,” which they did at last year’s NME awards. "It has taken a full twelve months for the world to be ready for this track - I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed performing it," said Jarvis. All proceeds will go to Shelter, an organization that raises money to help homeless and badly housed people across Britain.
Up and coming indie “angle” makers, Foals, stormed New York City this past weekend. Sub-zero temperatures could not keep the sold-out crowd away from the Bowery Ballroom show, during which guitarist Jimmy Smith vomited on stage. Also, it seems everyone is batty for Barack these days. Foals keyboardist said, via Myspace, that he'd like to swap tour shirts. "We're thinking of sending him one of our T-shirts to wear. We'd wear his T-shirts if he sent us some. Obama? Obama? Can you hear me, Obama? We'd like some T-shirts.” Foals debut album, Antidotes, will be released April 8th via Sub Pop.
Trip-Hop pioneers, Massive Attack, have been tapped to curate this year's Meltdown Festival. Not unlike Coachella, the festival brings the future of independent music together with the past. The series of shows will run from the 14th until the 22nd of June at the Southbank Centre in London. Past artistic directors include Patti Smith, Jarvis Cocker and Morrissey. Massive Attack is currently working on their fifth album of downtrodden beats.
Mad egocentric singer for England's answer to QOTSA, Serge Pizzorno, has said the new Kasabian album will be finished in the next three weeks. He said this about the sound, “It all joins together which is beautiful, there’s no gaps in it, it’s very psychedelic, there’s very much elements of the first but it’s a more distant sounding Kasabian than we have been with the last two albums.”
All you need is love, or Liam! Liam Gallager tied the knot this past Valentine's Day with longtime girlfriend Nicole Appleton. The super-secret ceremony was so rouge that brother, Noel, and fellow Oasis lads did not attend. Meanwhile, Oasis is putting the finishing touches on their follow-up to 2005's Don't Believe The Truth.
This weeks featured band is lo-fi extremists, The Kills. The Kills began as a Trans-Atlantic tape exchange obsession between Florida native Alison Mosshart and British guitarist Jamie Hince. What began as a promising garage/blues E.P., Black Rooster has now morphed into what The Kills hope to be their defining statement. With the release of their third album, Midnight Boom, The Kills have crafted an album that boasts the excitement of early Wire and even a little Siouxsie Sioux.
