Johnny Marr jumps in the Cribs, Jools Holland turns 200 and music from Make Model

One of the greatest guitarists of a generation has joined forces with one of England's greatest family bands. Johnny Marr, journeyman guitarist to the stars, will be collaborating with The Cribs for and upcoming E.P., and possibly a full length. Bassist Gary Jarman had this to say about their first encounter in Portland, OR. “I was a bit defensive at first – I was like, who’s this other English guy at the barbecue?” Jarman explained. “He came up and started talking to me and then the penny dropped about who he actually was. “We became mates, then one day we went out for afternoon tea. We drank a few pots of this white tea he’s really into, and decided to work together.”

The Kooks have reportedly parted ways with bassist Max Rafferty. His bouts with an undisclosed illness have forced the band to make a tough decision to move forward. The Kooks will follow up their toe-tapping debut Inside In/Inside Out with Konk, which arrives stateside April 14th.

BBC TV staple Jools Holland celebrated his 200th episode of "Later...With Jools Holland" this past weekend. The long running music program has showcased hundreds of pop music's finest on the legendary London soundstage. Radiohead, Cat Power, Feist and Robyn Hitchcock were on hand for the festivities.

The current "it" place to make music these days seems to be in Glasgow, Scotland. Make Model are the latest six piece export to raise eyebrows. They've only been a band for a year and have already been labeled as the Scottish version of Broken Social Scene. Be sure to catch them this March when they make their US debut at SXSW.
