We've Got You Covered

Death Cab for Cutie shows that there’s room for more than one cover on the "Stubbs the Zombie" soundtrack sung by a guy named Ben.

Last week Ben Kweller got inside our heads with his version of the infectiously catchy “Lollipop.” This week we won’t be rocking and bobbing our heads so much as swaying and holding up a lighter or, for the more tech-savvy, a cell phone. For the soundtrack to the greatest video game starring a zombie in a fictional late 50’s utopia, Death Cab for Cutie covered The Penguin’s classic (and 151st greatest song of all time according to Rolling Stone), “Earth Angel.”

Ben Gibbard’s mournful voice coupled with piano and a simple drum beat make you really feel for the guy. It sounds like he either got his heart ripped out by a woman or has the worst case of unrequited love in the history of the world. Either way, bravo to whoever decided that this video game’s soundtrack should consist of classic songs recorded by some pretty awesome modern performers. The result is absolutely superb, and we’re not done yet. Take a listen to "Earth Angel" below.
