The British Are Coming

Up and coming songstress Kate Nash was joined on stage last week in Australia by legendary folky Billy Bragg for a rendition of "A New England." "We were like hanging out and he was like, "Do you want to get together and do something at the Big Day Out?" and I was like yeah! It was amazing. It would be a privilege to do something on record. It would be amazing. I would be absolutely up for it."
Flamboyant singer and fashion plate Patrick Wolf will be releasing a DVD documenting his final show in 2007. Wolf also revealed on his Myspace page some hints at his next effort. “[I’m] trying to communicate some of the journeys, misadventures and experiences from the last couple of years since The Magic Position was completed.” In case you missed it, here is an interview HEAVE did with Wolf a few months ago.
I guess people in England aren't that fond of cornet players. Citizens of Leeds failed to catch British Sea Power's Phil Sumner after he leapt from a 12 foot PA system during a show last Wednesday. A spokesperson for the band has said there was no serious injury, saying Sumner only broke a molar and recieved some stitches. Look for BSP in Chicago this March.
Attention all fans of obscure yet highly influential late 80's Brit bands! Shack front man Michael Head is planning two shows to commemorate The Pale Fountains 25th anniversary of forming. If you're in London or Liverpool in early February, be sure to follow the crowd of middle-aged record collectors to a rare but welcomed reunion.
Another unexpected reunion from the world of Synth Pop to report. The reason Vince Clarke left Depeche Mode, Yaz, is getting back together after 25 years apart. The duo of Allyson Moyet and Vince Clarke, best know for hits like "Situation" and "Only You," will tour the UK in June and also release a box set featuring their two albums plus extras.
I was never crazy about the debut from The Duke Spirit (Cuts Across The Land), even though the British Press told me to be. I liked the vocals and naughty guitars enough, but that's the thing, it wasn't enough. It lacked the punch, sleaze and sex I was promised so I quickly dismissed it as another flash in the British pan. Now we have the new single, and The Duke Spirit finally deliver. "The Step and the Walk" from the forthcoming Neptune album is naughty, rough and sweet - sort of like Lulu fronting the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
