The Whigs, Hello, Blue Roses and Kylie in this week's YLP
The Whigs – Like A Vibration - Admittedly, this Athens, GA-based band isn’t breaking any new ground - male-fronted rock and roll somewhere in between The Replacements and My Morning Jacket. But "Like A Vibration" sounds so good that you can't help but nod your head in approval. Whether or not The Whigs will ever reach the status of fellow Athens rockers REM remains to be seen, but so far, they’re off to a good start.

Hello, Blue Roses – Shadow Falls - The ever prolific Dan Bejar (of The New Pornographers, Destroyer and Swan Lake) takes yet another musical turn with his new project with Vancouver-based artist Sydney Vermont. He arranged the songs, she wrote the tunes, and the result is cute, gentle pop song driven by Bejar and Vermont’s vastly different voices, futuristic synths and sparse guitar. Even though the chorus is pretty much “my shadow falls (for you) repeated several times, I could listen to the duo sing that line over and over again and it would still sound as beautiful as it did the first time around.

Kylie – Wow - God only knows how old Kylie Minogue is by now, but she still knows what she's doing. Her effect-laden vocals are as catchy as ever, which remix duo MSTRKRFT fully exploits by adding in some Justice-esque electro flourishes and hard, pulsing beats. Simply put, this is the best remix I have heard in quite some time, and if you're not dancing by the end of the song, you don't know what fun is.
