The British Are Coming
New music and news from across the pond.
HBO needed to find a new hit after "Deadwood" and "The Sopranos" became part of television lore. Well they got one with "Flight Of The Conchords," but still lost half their audience in the process. I still think "John From Cincinnati" was going somewhere, even though I'm still scratching my head. Thankfully, the comedy duo of Bret and Jemaine will release a full-length album of their songs on American imprint Sub Pop. Meanwhile, "Flight Of The Conchords" is due to start filming their second series in New York this June.
There was a partial Clash reunion last Friday in Notting Hill. Ex-drummer Topper Headon and former Clash guitarist Mick Jones joined forces on stage for the first time in twenty-five years. The reunion was one surprise in a series of highlights during a six-night residency at West London's Inn On The Green. Classic Clash tracks played included "Train In Vain" and "Should I Stay Or Should I Go."
Think Before You Speak from Good Shoes will hit these shores March 18. The stunningly fun debut features obscure hits “Small Town Girl” and "Never Meant To Hurt You."
Liverpool surgical team, Clinic, are set to return to the U.S. with a tour and fifth album via Domino Records this spring. Their latest album, Do It, will be available April 8th and is said to have a more psychedelic sound. Doctor, you're wanted on the phone, it's time to rock!
In other trippy news, Kasabian are putting the finishing touches on their latest untitled album. Speaking to Radio 1 in Britain, lead singer Serge Pizzorno said, "I don't really know when it's going to be released, but as soon as we think it's ready it'll be out. It's psychedelic this one, it's going to open your mind."
I've had crush on Allison Goldfrapp ever since I saw her riding a mirror ball speckled horse in the "Ooh La La" video from their third album, Supernature. She is sexy, sensitive, intelligent and blonde - what more does anyone really need? Goldfrapp's ambient techno-glam sound was formed in 1999 when Allison Goldfrapp and composer Will Gregory forged a studio friendship. Gregory liked what he'd seen with Allison who'd previously worked with Orbital and Tricky. Their first three albums for Mute Records have become default settings for die-hard fans of synth driven dance pop. Goldfrapp's new album, Seventh Tree, promises to be a departure for the duo. They've recently stated that Seventh Tree is the, "Sensual counterpoint to the glitterball glamour of Supernature." Seventh Tree is due out February 26th via Mute. This is Goldfrapp with "A & E."VIDEO: Goldfrapp – A & E
