Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins revive the Traveling Wilburys.

Easily the most under-appreciated super group of all time is the Traveling Wilburys. Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, George Harrison and Jeff Lynne all had success in their own right, but as a group they have been almost completely overlooked. Really, “Handle with Care” is the only Wilburys song that most people know.

Jenny Lewis decided to give a nod to the Wilburys when she released Rabbit Fur Coat with the Watson Twins. Lewis and the Watson two pay homage to Petty, Dylan and company by enlisting their own hipster super group that includes Ben Gibbard and Conor Oberst . However, she does alter the lyrics of the new version slightly. And by slightly I mean that she changes one word.

In the original, the second verse begins with “I’ve been fobbed off and I’ve been fooled”, Lewis opted to change “fobbed” to a certain other word beginning with the letter f, most notable rhyming with duck. The change is slightly noticeable, but only because she over annunciates her chosen word. All in all, Lewis effectively pays tribute to a great band that never got its due.
