A Cause For Attention

Bryan House gets the Jeff Buckley treatment.

Christmas spirit and songs prevail, and singers from all over Chicagoland have teamed up to record a cover of Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah".

The song, featuring Kevin Prchal (The Young Sea), Adam Krier (Lucky Boys Confusion, American Taxi), Genevieve Shatz (Company of Thieves), Ryan O'Neal (Sleeping at Last), Mikey Russell (Wax on Radio), and Dan Monahan (Last Fast Action) is available for download at the cost of one dollar. It is currently streaming and available for purchase on the myspace page of The Young Sea, at http://www.myspace.com/theyoungsea.

All of the proceeds will be donated to Bryan House, a service of non-profit organization TRAF (Tolbert Refugee Assistance Foundation). The house in named in honor of Bryan Emmanuel Guzman, who passed away in a tragic accident one year ago.

Bryan House is a five-unit home located on the west side of Aurora, IL which is supported by sponsors to provide housing for refugee families. While families live in the home, the rent they pay will be invested for them through an interest bearing account, and also leveraged in a government matched savings program. In this way, the family is able to save enough money to buy their own home.

According to trafonline.com, homeownership "not only gives parents an asset to invest and take pride in, but it also dramatically increases opportunities for the family and their children. The equity that a family builds up through homeownership can pay for college educations, small business ventures and other opportunities that might not otherwise be possible." It is estimated that over the initial 30-year mortgage period of Bryan House, over 500 refugees will be impacted.

The Young Sea will also be playing a benefit show at the Metro in Chicago on December 22 with bands Skybox, Company of Thieves, and Sars Flannery.

That show will feature the live performance of "Hallelujah" with all of the singers, and ticket proceeds will benefit another great non-profit organization: Dave Egger's 826 CHI (www.826chi.org), dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills.
