"You scumbag/you maggot/you cheap lousy faggot!" Immortal words from perhaps the greatest Christmas song of all time, "Fairytale of New York." This week, The BBC decided to censor the holiday lament performed by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl - a hit song back in the 1987, "Fairytale of New York" has been edited to not offend our more sensitive society. The words "faggot" and "slut" have been muted from the original for proper radio airplay. Jean MacColl, mother of the now deceased Kirsty MacColl, had this to say about the language between the song's two narrators, "These are a couple of characters - not in the first flush of youth, I would have thought. This is the way they spoke. Today we have a lot of gratuitous vulgarity and whatever from people all over which I think is quite unnecessary. They are what they are. These characters speak like that."
The Pogues were have said to find the edit "amusing."
The Daily Star in London reports a Japanese company is designing a line of Oasis stuffed animals. The teddy bears will display the Oasis logo and will also come with interchangeable rock n' roll outfits. Finally, Noel Gallagher's drug induced hallucinations are coming to life!
The Kills have spoken up about their impending new album Midnight Boom, out March 18 via Domino Records. The album was recorded in distraction free Benton Harbor, Michigan, and boasts a more fuller and grittier sound. "We wanted to create 'modern playground songs,' with really upbeat melodies and dark lyrics, like kids used to sing during recess," says guitarist Jamie Hince.
Apparently, strange 60's throwback Amy Winehouse has been arrested in London. No, it's not public indecency or kilos of cocaine hidden in her nether regions; it's perverting the court of justice! Police in London now have cause to believe Winehouse had a part in an alleged bribery involving her boyfriend and a bloodied up bar man. Fun.
