A small taste of new music. Sondre Lerche, Sigur Ros and The Brunettes in this edition of YLP.

Sigur Ros - Salka - A Sigur Ros B-side is not quite like any other band's B-side. As the track "Salka" demonstrates, the beautiful melodies, mournful, high-pitched falsettos and dreamy guitar soundscapes that have defined the band's career aren't just a tired gimmick, but an engaging combination that still has a few tricks up it's sleeve. Originally recorded during the ( ) sessions, it makes you wonder how and why it wasn't put out the first time around. Overall, "Salka" establishes that music that isn't good enough for Sigur Ros is still a million times more moving and compelling than 99% of other artist's best efforts.

Hvarf-Heim is out now on XL Records.

The Brunettes - Her Hairagami Set - This New Zealand boy/girl duo offers an interesting take on indie pop. Comparable to The Carpenters, combined with a less abrasive Dresden Dolls, the band switches off between focal members Jonathan Bree and Heather Mansfield's vocals during verse and chorus parts respectively. With it's unique vocal melodies, intricate, tempo-changing song structure, the piano-driven "Her Hairagami Set" lists the myriad of hairstyles achievable by the mail-order hair product sensation and unveils the ultimate results: "doesn't she look a million with her hairagami set/hair kisses 'n' hair architecture yes she's a beautiful brunette." Is the song a subtle critique of mass consumer culture and Western standards of beauty or heartfelt homage to a convenient fashion accessory? You decide!

Structure & Cosmetics is out now on Sub Pop Records.

Sondre Lerche - My Hands Are Shaking - French pop singer-songwriter Sondre Lerche offers a catchy tune led simply by his voice and an acoustic guitar. The Lovin' Spoonful-esque track and English language lyrics fit the lighthearted but subtle melancholy of Dan In Real Life, the film it accompanies, with words like "my lips are bleeding from kissing you goodbye/from kissing you goodbye every night." Both mellow and breezy,"My Hands Are Shaking" offers a simple melody for a not so simple love story.

Dan In Real Life: Original Soundtrack is out now on Capitol Records.
