DeVotchKa is four-piece hailing from Denver, Colorado. Unlike most four pieces, each member of DeVotchKa plays, at the very least, 2 instruments; none of which are found in most run of the mill indie bands. Described as a group that brings Greek, Slavic and Mariachi music together, the worldly DeVotchKa has had a career almost as unique as their style.
DeVotchKa originally toured as a back up band for Dita von Teese, burlesque star and former wife of Marilyn Manson. This gave DeVotchKa an underground following that would culminate with their 2004 release, How It Ends. The title track was featured in Everything Is Illuminated and Little Miss Sunshine, gaining DeVotchKa the ability to dig out from the underground and gain national exposure.
How It Ends is brilliant in its elegance, and at no point would you feel that you're listening to a band from Colorado. Sometimes How It Ends is lighthearted, other times its downright heart breaking.
DeVotchKa makes beautiful music about beautiful things. I would recommend this album to anyone for their collection, regardless of where their tastes lie. Listen to the title track below, I'm sure you'll recognize it.
