Each week HEAVE tries to enhance your, "Have you heard of this band?" knowledge. This week you get to know Electric President.
Ben Cooper and Alex Kane formed Electric President in 2003, and proceeded to record three albums in six months. This Viagra-like production received little acclaim from media outlets, but the two bounced back in 2005 with a self titled effort released by record company, Morr Music.
Like early Modest Mouse, Electric President chose to do their recordings in a shed turned studio. Maybe removing a lawn mower to make music invokes certain emotions in people, but the sound of Electric President can be classified as very Mouse-like. Present are the iridescent and intricate tones, held together by lyrics that sound like something straight out of Isaac Brock's lyric book.
Sounding much larger than a two-piece, Electric President drops in glockenspiels, violins and piano, along with harmonies and overlapping vocals over each other, or their own voice. Many people have compared them to Postal Service, which isn't very true at all. Judge for yourself and enjoy "Ten Thousand Lines" below.
