And Now You Have...

Each week we try to enhance your "have you heard of this band" knowledge. Get to know Someone Still Loves you Boris Yeltsin.

Philip Dickey probably doesn't care that I'm writing about his band right now. Dickey, the drummer of Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, once said, "Internet fame doesn't make sense to us. I don't think our lead singer has an email address." SSLYBY may not like the Internet, but the Internet surely likes them. Their 2005 release, Broom, received critical acclaim from just about every online media outlet; with some claiming that it was the record of the year.

The pride of Springfield, Missouri; SSLYBY delivers a true to form pop rock sound that is as honest with it's meaning as it is catchy. They carry the sincerity of Elliott Smith (along with similar vocal styling at points), while possessing the knack to write an upbeat song that remains relatively downtrodden with heartbreak. The most baffling thing about Yeltsin is their ability to have you completely enamored by the end of a track; even if you aren't a fan of the song through the first minute or so. The song ends and you find yourself saying, "Wow, that song got great." Stretch that over the course of ten tracks, and you have a band that deserves to be in the record collection.

They are currently working on their new untitled album that has a tentative release for March 2008. According to their official website it won't be called Mop, so I'm sorry if you had that in your office pool. With the way their career has panned out thus far, don't be surprised to see them blow up and surpass their Internet fame with national recognition. You would be doing yourself and your friends a great displeasure by not telling everyone you know about Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin.
