Goldfrapp, The Kooks and Cut Off Your Hands in this week's Across The Pond
Steve Hewitt, longtime drummer for nasal glam pop phenoms Placebo, has decided to part ways after over ten years of service. Now down to a duo, front man Brian Molko had this to say…
"Being in a band is very much like being in a marriage, and in couples - in this case a triple - people can grow apart over the years. To say that you don't love your partner anymore is inaccurate, considering all that you've been through and achieved together. There simply comes a point when you realize that you want different things from your relationship and that you can no longer live under the same roof, so to speak."
That's the textbook answer, but I think it must have been that last tour with My Chemical Romance and Linkin Park that broke the drum sticks of peace.
All around good time pop rock group The Kooks have begun work on the follow up to the undeniably catchy Inside In/Inside Out. Front man Luke Pritchard had this to say about the new recordings…
"I want this album to be big," he said. "I've got an ego - I want the album to do well. I want our singles to come on the radio and for people to have their heads blown off by them."
Which makes me think; how can The Kooks survive when all their fans are dead?
Geoff Barrow, of trip hop delights Portishead, recently added to the current Radiohead craze by comparing "free music" to not paying laborers for their work. He had this to say on the band’s website…
"So then...music for free, is it? Well, fucking great. So if you get our album for nothing or very little, does that mean I can get my boiler fixed for free? I could tell the plumber that it's all for the love of sharing and it's to combat the evil money-grabbing corporation that is Zanussi. I'm sure he will understand."
I'm sensing his bitterness, perhaps it's due to the fact that Portishead hasn't had anything new to sell in over 10 years. Don't get us wrong; HEAVE still loves you.
The synth pop love fest known as Goldfrapp have given us an update on the status of the follow up to their smash break through album Supernature. Allison Goldfrapp recently posted this on their site…“Been a long time I know, but we have finally emerged from our beavering hole in Somerset and have an album! Feels really good to have finished it and we can’t wait for you to hear what we have been doing. It’s very different to Supernature so it might come as a bit of a shock to some of you. We had fun making it and loved doing something that is in complete contrast to the last album, even though sometimes it took a bit of courage to steer as far away as we did on some of the tunes. It has come from the heart and was made with love, so we hope you will be into it too. We love hearing what you're all up to and what you’re thinking on the message board so keep it coming please! May the force be with you."
