Missed Out Music
It's better to have loved great music than never to have loved at all. We remind you, just in case you've forgotten.
It’s something special when you discover a band at just the right time. Whether it is your mood or emotions – finding a group that is so accurately portraying how you feel is as therapeutic as it gets. This happened to me in early 2005 when I came across Dirty On Purpose; a four piece out of Brooklyn, New York.
Dirty On Purpose released Sleep Late for a Better Tomorrow in 2004. It immediately became a hit among the critics, eventually being re-released in 2005 on North State Records. The soft and subtle sound of interchanging voices accompanies music that, at points, is just straight up rocking. Sometimes the music isn’t so rocking – and Dirty On Purpose becomes a band that gives you the perfect soundtrack for a long train ride home or a late afternoon nap.
Dirty On Purpose has found great success over the last year, releasing Hallelujah Sirens, another critically acclaimed record that culminated with a “Best Indie Rock Album? nomination at the 2007 PLUG Independent Music Awards.
“Girls and Sunshine? was the first Dirty On Purpose song I heard, and without knowing the rest of the catalog, I did know that I loved Dirty On Purpose. Sometimes I think back and wonder if I would enjoy them as much if I had heard them a day later; but that didn’t happen, so here we are. Take a listen to “Girls and Sunshine? below.
