They are Probably Vampires, yet certainly good.
Fall is upon us, which means cold weather will soon appear, and rather than spend weekends on the beach, we'll gravitate towards bars to wash down cheap beer, listen to good music and complain about Chicago weather. And you know the perfect band for your background of booze and bickering? Chicago based pop-rock band Probably Vampires.
The local five piece offers up danceable keyboard tinged music that belongs on a jukebox at the dive bar of your choice. Their music has a 60's British rock sound to it, with strong driving guitars, gruff vocals and that aforementioned whirling keyboard thrown in the mix (probably the main reason so many people compare them to The Doors). They also get compared to The Zombies, further proving that if you name your band after a classic movie monster, you're probably going to rock hard.
But I digress, Probably Vampires have that classic pop element in their music (think early Beatles “I Wanna Hold Your Hand,? where you know the song is pop music, but you can't get the word rock 'n' roll out of your head when describing it). The key to their appeal is seeing them live. The band has a palpable energy when they play. Probably Vampires are a group of guys that you know are having fun on stage, and truly love making music. Which is how all musicians should act; but sadly don't.
The band has been around for over five years now, and although they can command a stage and audience like absolute pros, they still haven't lost the excitement and awe of a younger band that is playing live for the first time. The good part for you dear reader, is you can catch them live soon here in Chicago! The boys will be playing a record release show on October 18th (just in time for that cold weather to make everyone retreat to the depths of local bars) at Schubas. The show is 18+, and will be a rocking good time. While you’re there you can grab their new EP Sons of Guns. I’d recommend that you grab their amazingly catchy album Dang, to wash away those sad tears of the end of summer and to get you ready for the 18th. You can get the album on iTunes or on CD Baby. Probably Vampires? More like probably no longer a band. Sadly (and with very much unfortunate timing) Probably Vampires has decided to call it quits via a very heartfelt message on their Myspace. Yes folks, welcome to the music industry, where one day your band is thriving and the next day your telling all of Myspace when your last show will be. What a cruel cruel world. But have no fear, you can still catch Probably Vampires at their last show on October 18th at Schubas, where they will still be selling their new EP and rocking out for the last time. Should be a night to remember. So come out, buy the guys a round, give some high fives on a job well done, and celebrate a good long run for this fantastic band.
